Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève

Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Blancpain clinched yet another award at this year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). Now in its 15th year, GPHG seeks to honour the excellence of horological creations, be it in the movements, use of materials, or simply the craft put into making masterpieces.

Blancpain’s Villeret Shakudo Ganesh was nominated in GPHG’s Artistic Crafts’ category, and topped the group with its aesthetic characteristics. The timepiece features a mix of traditional art from both Japan and India. It uses shakudo, a Japanese alloy composed of gold and copper, while the dial depicts Hindu god Ganesh, surrounded by finely detailed ornaments. To create the dial, troughs were fashioned upon its surface and fine threads of gold were hammered in place, before it was set to be hand engraved.
