Rimowa Gets A Rick Owens Makeover

Rimowa’s storied collaborations with luxury fashion houses—think Fendi and Dior—have cemented its place as a canvas for creative expression. Enter Rick Owens, whose partnership with the German Maison brings a bold, avant-garde twist to its timeless cabin bag. Yet, while the collaboration itself may not surprise, the design certainly does.

Owens infused the bag with his unorthodox vision, prioritising creative freedom to push Rimowa’s technical boundaries. “Rick Owens brings an unapologetic edge to everything he touches,” notes Rimowa CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert. “His fearless approach inspired a collaboration that challenges convention at every step.”

This is evident in the bag’s unique patinated aluminium finish, created through a meticulous, manual pigment application process. The result? An aged, textured effect that makes each suitcase truly one-of-a-kind, evolving over time to reflect its journeys—a living work of art.

Inside, the innovation continues with Rimowa’s first-ever fully leather interior. Owens personally sourced the leather, reimagining the lining and Flex Dividers to exude a rich, tactile luxury. Every detail speaks to the designer’s penchant for refined minimalism.

Branding, too, remains understated. The suitcase’s exterior features both Rimowa’s and Rick Owens’ logos, while inside, the designer’s emblem appears embossed on a leather label alongside the German Maison’s. Even the leather straps bear the collaboration’s dual identity in a subtle nod to its exclusivity.

Limited to 500 numbered pieces and backed by Rimowa’s unconditional Lifetime Guarantee, the Rimowa x Rick Owens Original Cabin Bronze is available online and at select Rimowa and Rick Owens stores. Each purchase includes a genuine hair-on cowskin luggage tag, developed and produced by Rick Owens in Italy.
