The Arcadia 115 Tortoise Yacht comes out of its shell
Squint and the namesake of the Arcadia 115 Yacht makes sense – the slightly squat silhouette and fibreglass hull reflecting water in a grey hue does make it look somewhat like a tortoise – but unlike its reptilian name, this boat is anything but slow. Powered by two 1,200hp, MAN V-8 engines, the Tortoise is capable of cruising up to 16 knots, with a max speed of 18 knots, but can also slow down to a placid 8 knots under a hybrid-propulsion mode with zero carbon emissions and noise pollution.
The green credentials don’t just end there. Some 60 sq.m of 5-kilowatt double-glazed photovoltaic panels cover the yacht’s roof, generating enough power to operate utilities without a need for a generator, keep things quiet and the aesthetic futuristic as well. The exterior is a triumph of Francesco Guida, Arcadia Yacht’s in-house designer, lending a sleek, almost military vibe. The interior, furnished in Poltrona Frau, is Mediterranean modern – the classic white and blue colour scheme of southern Europe twisted into a sexy, sumptuous seating across six staterooms that sleep up to 12 guests. On the main deck, the spacious saloon boasts floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, with extensive use of glass that exteriorly blends into the fibreglass panels, affording unparalleled views from the interior.
