All one really needs to know about the new Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 4MATIC AMG Line (RM899,888), recently launched in Malaysia, is that it is the S-Class of SUVs. This means that the brand’s iconic take on luxurious passenger vehicles is now available in a contemporary format that offers even more room and the flexibility to suit a modern, active lifestyle.
Its three rows of seats carry up to seven people. All seats are electrically adjustable, which is particularly convenient for accessing the rearmost row, or to fold the middle and rear rows down. Doing so will reveal a cavernous 2,400 litres of cargo space.
Passengers will be travelling in the utmost comfort, of course, with the AIRMATIC air suspension system equipped with a suite of sensors that enable it to adapt to road conditions and stay level. The nine-speed transmission also helps with engine efficiency and keeps its noise to a minimum. The hybrid powertrain includes a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine, with an output of up to 367bhp, and a still-respectable 0-100km/h time of 6.2 seconds.
