The Monocoque Palle Canoe is almost too beautiful to use

italian studio BorromeodeSilva has created a stunning aquatic design

Canoes are meant to get wet, but perhaps not this one. Designed by Italian studio BorromeodeSilva as a one-off, the Monocoque Palle Canoe is an amazing combination of tradition design and contemporary technology, of craftsmanship and innovation. It has already won a Land Rover Born Design award, and it is easy to see why.

With a hull made from copper-woven carbon fibre, the Monocoque Palle is lighter than it looks. And it looks stunning. The copper wire woven into the carbon fibre not only gives the dark outer surfaces texture, but also flicker in the sunlight. The teak surface, laid in a herringbone-like pattern, was handlaid by Maestri d’Ascia, a renowned artisanal boat craftshouse in Genoa. So streamlined is this design that the oars can be tucked into the side, allowing for easy storage and even easier transportation. And if you’re more a fan of motorised transport, word is the BorromeodeSilva is working on a version with a integrated small electric motor.
