An Island Weekend With A Special Appearance Of The McLaren Artura

On the idyllic island of Langkawi, a fleet of McLarens took to the roads and up the mountain for a memorable weekend of driving, feasting, music, and winning.

Watch the highlights below:

On a languid Saturday afternoon, the symphonic crescendo of a twin-turbo V8 emanated among the clear roads of Langkawi. The source of this mechanical melody was a McLaren 750S, one of the latest models from the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking. The 750S Spider, in fact, is also Robb Report’s 2025 Car of the Year, recognised by our panel of motoring experts for its celebrations of innovation, design, and driving excellence, and described as “a masterpiece for driving dynamics”.

For one of its owners, Ivan Teoh, the 750S is a clear winner for giving him “total value for money”. For Teoh, the 750S was worthy of the investment thanks to its ability to embody thrilling performance and luxury in one sleek package.

The 750S was hardly the only showstopper on this Langkawi drive, jointly organised by Malaysia’s sole official dealer McFarren Supercars and the McLaren Owner’s Community Malaysia (MOCM). On the road and capturing the imagination of many was the McLaren Artura—the marque’s high-performance hybrid supercar kitted with advanced McLaren carbon fibre lightweight architecture and a V6 twin-turbocharged hybrid petrol engine.

Up the winding road of Gunung Raya and over the flat thoroughfares running into the town of Kuah, the Artura was both graceful and—with a touch of the Sport mode—intense in getting to the destination in double quick time.

From a welcome seafood dinner on Day One to a morning hill climb followed by contemporary classic Malay cuisine at Rimba restaurant at the boutique hilltop resort of Ambong Ambong, MOCM members savoured the easy lifestyle that Langkawi offered, in proximity to the calming azure sea.

For MOCM committee chairman Ng Choon Jin, who piloted his 765LT for this drive, the pleasure of ownership lies in the excellent performance and splendid driving that the car provides. “It never lacks power and roars when needed,” Ng says. On Langkawi, he adds that the island is “where you can escape your work schedule, to relax your mind and soul”.

This Langkawi weekend also coincided with the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race in Silverstone. And the ebullient mood of the McLaren owners would reach a peak with the commanding performances of the McLaren Racing team, who overcame polesitter Max Verstappen in rain-soaked conditions to triumph with Lando Norris wresting the championship, followed by teammate Oscar Piastri in the runner-up spot for a perfect 1-2 finish.
