Silk scarves were waved, fortunes were predicted, and Veuve Clicquot was sipped with abandon at Concubine KL – one of the city’s hottest new bars – marking the return of the renowned champagne house to Malaysia. On a warm evening, guests crossed a wooden arch bridge into Petaling Street’s Kwai Chai Hong lane to toast the evening’s collaboration between the champagne brand and Concubine KL, in what was a mutual celebration of modern, independent, and strong-willed women.

Referencing Madame Clicquot’s own penchant for breaking barriers, Thomas Bouleuc, the newly appointed Managing Director of Moët Hennessy Diageo Malaysia, emphasised the importance of showcasing the brand’s distinctly feminine heritage. “We aim to preserve the brand’s quest for modernity and excellence, constantly reinventing itself with new cuvées and bold innovations to enhance the enjoyment of its wines,” he said. “We have chosen Concubine KL tonight, which transports you from the hustle and bustle of Chinatown to the modern yet nostalgic setting that aligns with Veuve Clicquot’s tagline, Let Life Surprise You.”

As bottle after bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut was opened, Concubine KL’s bartenders conjured up champagne cocktails such as Old Cuban, Chrysanthemum Royale, and a Lychee Veuve Clicquot Bellini. Meanwhile, guests amused themselves as they stopped by fortune-telling and hand fan calligraphy stands, took in the sight of a live wall painting in the bar, and listened to the dulcet tones of local acoustic singer Priscilla Xavier.
