Dolce & Gabbana have an affinity for celebrating all things Italy in their fashion – from Sicilian widow lace to Roman symbology – as well as their more outré collaborations, like with Smeg. So why not that most Italian of culinary staples, pasta? Signori Domenico and Stefano certainly agreed, because they have created a limited-edition pasta line with Pastificio Di Martino.

To be specific, Dolce & Gabbana are not pioneering new pasta shapes or recipes here. Pastificio Di Martino supplies the PGI Gragnano Pasta, while the fashion house provides the colourful packaging. A riot of bright shades and whimiscal riffs on Italian landmarks – there’s the Duomo of Milan, a Venetian canal, the Colosseum in Rome and the Leaning Tower of Pisa – cradle bags of spaghetti, paccheri, penne mezzani rigate, avvolti a mano and mista corta. But the most important imagery is front and centre: a happy family enjoying pasta together. Family is the cornerstone of Italian culture, which is why each bag has the joyful motto of ‘La Famiglia, La Pasta, e L’Italia!’ or ‘Family, pasta and Italy!’

The pasta are available separately or in a limited edition tin containing two bags of spaghetti, two bags of penne and one of paccheri. Only 5,000 tins of the collection – which also houses a Dolce & Gabbana apron – were produced, priced at €95 (RM460). It’ll pair perfectly with the pasta dress from its Spring/Summer 2017 collection. And if you think that’s too high an amount, just remember: you can’t put a price on family.
