Glenfarclas’ Family Reserve marks a century and a half of the Grant family

The price of perfection

The Glenfarclas £511.19s.0d Family Reserve (RM590) is a limited release celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Grant family’s ownership of the famed distillery. Its name recalls the price at which Glenfarclas was acquired, a mere 511 pounds sterling, 19 shillings and no pence — or about £57,000 adjusted for inflation. It might be a mouthful to pronounce, but it tastes fantastic in the mouth. Only 600 bottles out of a total production run of 10,000 are available in Malaysia; due to its rarity, it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with a photocopy of the purchase invoice of the distillery on the reverse.
