Dark is the knight
Marvel’s Avengers had their turn in 2012, and this year, it’s DC taking a stab at a superhero cinematic team-up movie in the spandex-filled Justice League. Front and centre of this merry band of heroes – which includes icons Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash – is the Dark Knight himself, Batman. And now Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego is getting immortalised in pewter, as Royal Selangor teams up with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Consumer Products to brighten Batman up a hue or two – from black to grey.
Unveiled at the recent San Diego Comic Con, the 9.25 inch/23.5 cm figurine is a preview of a collection that will focus on the Bat family and the most iconic rogue gallery is all of comicdom. Expect Robin, the Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn to make eventual appearances, but for now, the Bat Signal is shining squarely on the Dark Knight. Designed by Malaysian artist Alan Quah and sculptor Mufizal Mokhtar, the Dark Knight stands perched on a gargoyle, batarang tightly gripped and cape billowing in the wind, as he surveys Gotham for criminals to strike down. Limited to 3,000 units, the figurine is now available for pre-order at Royal Selangor’s outlets or website for US$500/RM2,150.
