Chess is a golden, diamond-encrusted game with the House of Solid Gold

Knights in shining, golden armour

Chess players often offer up a prayer to Caïssa, the goddess of chess, for luck. When playing with The House of Solid Gold’s Gold Chess set with diamonds, they might also wish to offer up a prayer to Theia, the Greek goddess of shining gold.

Because that’s what the one-of-a-kind objet d’art is, shining. Made from diamond encrusted 18k solid yellow and white gold, the chess set is almost beyond opulent. It could be a commission of a Russian Tsar, or a pastime of an Ottoman sultan; instead it can be yours for only US$370,000 (RM1.49 million). Thirty master craftsmen spending over 4,500 hours crafting the chess set, with baroque gold pieces facing off jet black opponents on a gold-and-noir board. Some 4,874 fancy black and yellow-golden diamonds, weighing a total of 125.5 carats, are used in the chess set, with a further 1.2kg of 18k solid gold for the pieces. And to store this lavish work of art? A hand-crafted case by Louis Vuitton.

Chess is often called the game of kings, and with The House of Solid Gold Gold Chess set with diamonds, it is now fit for one as well.
