Sustainable luxury baggage takes off
Brothers Ben and Harry Tucker call their products ‘luxury waste’. The idea was to take fabric from decommissioned airplanes and revive them into something cool and unique. Through the company PLANE and Kickstarter, the Tucker brothers are now selling a luxury luggage collection made from discarded airplane fabrics.
Consisting of backpacks, weekend bags, messenger bags, phone pouches and laptop sleeves, each of the pieces comes with its own unique story – having journeyed over 18 million miles across 68 countries. Those statistics are encapsulated in a special leather stamp affixed to each bag. It might not be as rare as vicuna or as luxurious as silk, but this type of fabric has its plus point, being resistant against heat and stains while relatively light.
Items in the collection range from US$40-360 (RM162-1,450).
