Bottega Veneta’s essential volume of fashion photography

Long has the art of photography gone hand in hand with the world of fashion, and no designer has married the visual intricacies of each medium quite so well as Tomas Maier, creative director of Bottega Veneta.

Maier’s own interest in photography has brought about a heightened level of campaign images, with the designer working with luminaries of the industry such as Robert Longo, Nan Goldin, Erwin Olaf, Steven Meisel, Nick Knight and Lord Snowdon. The results of Maier’s vision have now been immortalised in a 656-page tome containing more than 1000 photographs chronicling the brand’s ad campaigns since 2002.

“It’s great when you shoot with someone who has an eye for clothes but many of these people don’t,” says Maier. ”When they shoot an image, it’s almost like a movie set. Everything is important in that image: what’s happening in the background where the model is going, what she’s looking at… the atmosphere generates a story.”

With a foreword by Tim Blanks and essays by Daphne Merkin, Bottega Veneta: Art of Collaboration will undoubtedly hold pride of place in any collector’s fashion book library. The book is available at Bottega Veneta stores worldwide.
