look inside

Blancpain’s flying tourbillon gets a refresh with this year’s talking piece at BaselWorld. The Villeret Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Retrograde is a masterful showcase of Blancpain’s in-house capabilities, with sapphire offering a grandiose view of the movement construction. Over a month is spent to engrave the bridges and that same level of artistry is also extended to the grand feu enamel dial, which requires artisans to hollow out the dial’s solid gold base before hand painting layers of enamel and then firing it at 800-degrees Celsius. This level of detailing also extends to diamond-polished gold rings around the tourbillon porthole and hours window of the 42mm timepiece, available in red gold and a limited release of 20 pieces in platinum.
