How Vulcan Innova created watch winders from BMW engines

As far as watch winders go, the M52 straight-six mill found in a variety of mid-to-late 1990s BMWs doesn’t strike as a particularly obvious choice. Vulcan Innova has, however, seen fit to rejuvenate 52 units of these blocks into the VI52 winder (from US$25,000/RM107,500), capable of winding up to six watches — over cushions set in the six pistons — at up to three pre-programmed modes with variable speed, acceleration and frequency.

A key unlocks the winder, raising the pistons out of their respective cylinders while a USB tender features to update winding programs. Vulcan Innova asserts that no two of the numbered winders will be the same, with personalised finishing for engine block colour, texture and fittings, including the tone of the leather cushions among other options.
