The Corum Golden Bridge Rectangle is a distinct achievement in horology

Corum is not your average Swiss watchmaker. The maison has a few tricks up its sleeve, and none more interesting than the Bridges collection. It is so named for its unique ‘baguette’ movement, which arranges all its components in a line. Naturally, ever since the first Golden Bridge was launched in 1980, these timepieces have proudly exhibited their movements with skeletonised dials. Its linear layout gives Bridge watches the potential to have a more organised aesthetic than most skeleton watches.

The Golden Bridge Rectangle (US$36,900/RM144,000), introduced in 2017, is no different in that regard. The Rectangle is somewhat of a return to the Bridges collection’s roots, for in recent times they have tended to be round or tonneau in shape. The central hand-wound CO113 calibre is exquisitely finished and flanked by a framework of 18k gold numerals and open space. The case is 18k rose gold, and is 42mm tall by 29.5mm wide. It sits elegantly on its brown alligator strap, and makes a statement without being overly ostentatious — and in a way that celebrates an aspect of horology that stands on its own.
