The photo-luminescent watch is inspired by the 1982 movie
Continuing the Tron theme, Swiss watchmaker Hautlence is dipping into the pool of neon cool with the Hautlence Vortex Gamma Tron. Using the same unique square dial that has proven skeptics wrong when it debuted a few years ago with the Vortex (and continued with last year’s Hautlence Vortex Gamma series), the new Vortex Gamma Tron wears its inspiration on its sleeve. Or in this case, its dial.
Rendered in blue and white 52mm white case this time, the timepiece is composed of six 3D sapphire crystals, displaying hours on a rotating chain, a retrograde minute scale and off-axis one-hour tourbillon. Powered by the in-house HL2.0 self-winding movement, the Vortex Gamma Tron has a power reserve of 40 hours, 92 jewels and is water-resistant down to 30 metres. That’s all pretty standard in a Vortex, but what sets this one apart are the photo-luminescent edges. Incorporated into the material rather than painted on the surface, the edges glow blue in the absence of light, demarcating the watch using the futuristic signature visual traits pioneered by Steven Lisberger’s Tron back in 1982. It may be difficult to tell the time in the dark, but the glow-in-the-dark Möbius strip symbol will always remind you that this is a Hautlence.
