Louis Vuitton’s elaborate Escale Worldtime gets a little update in blue

Louis Vuitton’s bewildering-to-read Escale Worldtime, a watch that tells the time across 24 time zones in 24 major cities, has gotten an update. A small one. The timepiece retains its distinctive complicated look – and its microscope-assisted hand-painted city abbreviations and nautical flags – except instead of the original limited edition white gold, it now displays shades of blue. Wow.

Driven by the in-house Calibre LV106, the automatic movement powers the three superimposed rotating discs that tell the city, hour and minute respectively. With a power reserve of 38-hours, the only fixed element of the dial is the yellow arrow that always pointed due north, or 12 o’clock in this case. It’s confusing at first, but you’ll get used to it. Particularly if you have shelled out US$49,000 (RM215,525) for it.
