SIHH 2018: Richard Mille takes the RM53-01 for a round of polo

By Kenneth Tan | January 19, 2018

Tough Times

Comprising armoured sapphire and titanium bridges, the RM53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough is the second coming of a polo timepiece by Richard Mille. Every possible shock encountered in the game of polo was carefully considered in this timepiece’s creation, with carbon TPT on the case and a cable-suspension mechanism for the movement. Pendulum testing of up to 5,000 Gs was applied to the sapphire crystal construction with no ill effects, while a hammer blow doesn’t leave any fragments of sapphire among the movement. The final reckoning is of a timepiece which is virtually indestructible even under the most extreme stresses of a polo match, displaying a durability which Richard Mille is famed for.
