A serene 80-second ride up the elevator at the International Commerce Centre whisks you into the resplendent lobby of The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, where you are treated to an eagle’s eye view of Kowloon, Hong Kong City and its undulating outlying territories and islands. Beside the registration counters, towards the left, is a miniaturised check-in counter specially fabricated for children of guests. This counter is part of the enhanced Ritz Kids Programme that was rolled out just last year, offering the young ones an immersive adventure within the hotel’s stratospheric heights.

Available at a supplementary fee of HK$800+ (RM440+) per night, the programme provides the child traveller with his or her own ‘passport’, designed to fully reward a child’s curiosity and aptitude for learning. Each child also receives a Pierre the Lion backpack and an access-all-restaurants bracelet pass for complimentary ice cream (including the hotel’s two Michelin-starred outlets). A map within the passport leads the child on different adventures within the hotel, where they earn stamps upon completing tasks. A successfully completed passport upon check-out results in the gift of a Pierre the Lion plush toy, playfully named after the hotel’s general manager Pierre Perusset.

The artful style of The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong to make its junior guests feel at home is even more pronounced at bath time with Pokemon characters, toys and child-sized amenities decorating the bathtub. This is complemented by child-sized bathrobes, slippers and safari-themed pyjamas. The adventure culminates with a Night Safari turndown service (available with reservations of a Grand Harbour Room and above) where a tent, compass, lantern, torch, drinking bottle and cuddly lion doll are laid out, together with bedtime milk and cookies.
