Matthew Williamson transforms a suite at La Residencia, Mallorca into a seductive botanical hothouse

In full bloom

There’s no better place in Mallorca to learn about the birds and the bees – not to mention the flowers and the trees, too – than in Belmond La Residencia’s Suite 67 (from €2,250/RM11,955 per night), which opened in April this year. Designed and decorated by acclaimed British designer Matthew Williamson, the one-bed suite connects guests to the property’s enchanting natural surroundings through its magical and unique detailing, such as walls adorned with botanical artworks and hand-drawn paintings of native birds.

While surrounded by mountains, olive groves and sea views, guests of Suite 67 can look forward to a private garden and pool area inspired by the glamour of 1950s Palm Springs and California, and a romantic outdoor snug. In the bedroom, a bed lacquered in striking Yves Klein electric blue stands out against Williamson’s signature Rosanna Trellis wallpaper, while the vibrant bathroom sports a vintage roll-top bath. Pairing a sense of rustic decadence with the artistic spirit that fills the property, Suite 67 is – as the designer puts it – “A one-of-a-kind space to escape, relax and indulge in for both the modern and traditional traveller.”
