Life’s A Beach

Ever since Fiji Airways started operating direct flights to Singapore, travelling to this far-flung island just got a lot easier. As part of the country’s rapidly expanding plans to become an accessible tourist destination, luxury resorts and residences have been sprouting on Fiji’s 322 islands, including Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas.

Recently opened, Six Senses Fiji calls Malolo Island home. Malolo is the largest of the Mamanuca Islands cluster, and is located west of Viti Levu, the country’s capital. Fijian islands are comparatively much larger than the typical Maldivian islands you’re used to. This in itself is a huge plus in our book. The larger land area means that you won’t feel the Robinson Crusoe fatigue, hence you’re free to waltz out of your resort to explore others.

Getting to Six Senses Fiji is also a breeze, as Malolo Island can be accessed via a 10-min helicopter ride or a 35-min boat ride from Denarau Marina. Intending to sail from nearby countries? Simply dock your yacht at the full-service marina adjacent to the resort.

Accommodation wise, couples can select from the 24 One-Bedroom Pool Villas. Whilst those with children or are travelling in a larger group can opt for the suites and residences that come in two- to five-bedroom configurations.

Like most island resorts, sustainability is key at Six Senses Fiji. Not only does it run on just solar power, it collects rainwater and uses a special septic system and water reservoirs. Both of which replace the need for a desalination plant. The resort’s eco-friendly vision extends to its two restaurants, where local catch is sourced sustainably, either from fishermen or nearby village markets. Crops are also farmed from its garden or local farmers’.

While the resort offers typical activities and facilities, it’s the signature Six Senses Spa that keeps guests returning. Its multi-dimensional wellness programme is led by three medical doctors, and includes a wellness examination. This allows the therapists to determine each guest’s lifestyle before customising a programme based on his or her needs. Guests can expect nothing short of extraordinary at this spa. Their programme will include not only spa treatments, but also exercises and meditation plans, along with sleep tips and guidance.
