No Fuss, The Surfjack Hotel Will Give You The Most Carefree, Easygoing Holiday, Ever

By Renyi Lim | January 15, 2020

When’s the last time you grabbed your surfboard and shot the curl? If you’re aching for some time at sea, paddle over to The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club in Honolulu, which sits on Hawaii’s Oahu island. The 112 vintage-inspired rooms range from a One Room Bungalow to a Two Bedroom Suite (prices start from US$250 or about RM1,022 per room), all of which feature handcrafted mid-century furniture and local artwork that pay homage to the iconic Waikiki beach nearby.

The property is operated by Japanese hospitality specialists Hoshino Resorts, which means that thoughtful touches such as reef-safe sunscreen, admission to the Honolulu Museum of Art, and daily doses of Surfjack’s signature Caffe Luxxe coffee are all included in your stay. Its Swim Club – open to both locals and guests – hosts open-air movie premieres, talk story sessions, and the occasional cannonball, while the hotel regularly holds silent discos, Pilates classes, surf restore yoga, and lei wristlet-making tutorials on Aloha Fridays.

Famished surfers can turn to The Surfjack’s all-day restaurant, Mahina & Sun’s, run by Ed Kenney – a Honolulu-born chef known for his groundbreaking take on island cuisine – whose menu offers red moonfish, avocado tacos, and ice cream sandwiches. For those more interested in spending time out of the water than in it, Solé bicycles are readily available for on-land excursions, or you can try The Reboot: a group meditation event in front of a technicolor Hawaiian sunset.
